THE GLORIOUS EXIT OF AN ICON
Clifton James, the renowned actor is dead. Clifton James, was best known for his portrayal of Sheriff JW Pepper in two James Bond films. The renowned actor died at the ripe age of 96.
He first played the hapless tobacco-spitting Louisiana law-enforcer alongside Sir Roger Moore in the 007 film Live and Let Die in 1973.
Clifton James was involved in a car chase scene with James Bond. The late actor was so popular with the audience that producers asked him to return in 1974’s The Man With the Golden Gun.
The second time around his character appeared as a disagreeable American tourist in Thailand.
In her remark, the late actor's daughter, Lynn said: “ Clifton James was the most outgoing person, beloved by everybody". She further remarked that she doesn't think that
the man had an enemy and that the family were incredibly blessed to have had such a wonderful man in their lives.
In his Twitter account,Sir Roger paid the late actor a tribute: “Terribly sad to hear Clifton James has left us. As JW Pepper he gave my first two Bond films a great, fun character.”
The late great man was born in Spokane in Washington State in 1920.
During the Great Depression,his family was thrown into poverty and lost all of their money(Sky News reports).
Clifton James served as a soldier with the US Army in the South Pacific during the Second World War and was awarded two Purple Hearts, a Silver Star and a Bronze Star.
His family said that the late actor lost a lot of his friends in the war and never spoke about his service.
At the end of the conflict, Clifton James took acting classes and went on to appear in hundreds of TV shows and films.
In addition to Bond, the late actor also appeared in Cool Hand Luke, Superman II and The Untouchables.
However, Clifton James was most proud of the work he did on stage, where he often played southern characters.
In later years,the late icon divided his time between New York, Oregon and Florida.
Clifton James was survived by five children, 14 grand-children and four great-grandchildren.
The family confirmed that the late actor died at his home in Oregon from complications related to diabetes.
